Software Defined Networking (SDN) is an important approach in computer networks. SDN provide permission to network administrator and to manage various network services by an abstraction of lower level layer function. Software defined networking separate two types of plane such as Data plane and control plane. Control plane establish and maintain a router state. Router process is recorded for where data are forwarded, firewall condition and traffic Engineering. Data plane deliver a packet and perform process based on router state, and points. Software defined network Omnet++ projects provide a traffic model for telecommunication network.

Software defined Network are done by dump a system which create division about control plane denoted as where traffic is sent from underlying system, then forwarded traffic to appropriate destination(data Plane). Emerging standards are developed by software defined networking named as OpenFlow which provide efficient communication among data plane and control Plane.

OpenFlow provide an instruction set to Network nodes. It ensures a black box interface for network node. OpenFlow data path contain a flow table action for each entry control path maintain a controller where programs are flow entry in flow table. Problems occurred in OpenFlow are:

  • Difficult in implementation real world large application.

  • Closed system with minimal abstraction.

  • No standard abstraction is provided towards north and south bound interfaces.

  • Standard abstraction is provided towards east and west bound interfaces with peer router (or) switch provide centralized hardware.

Software defined network is an enterprise network and simulated with Omnet++. Software Defined Network Omnet++ provides openFlow which is a virtualized network service application. Students are more interested to do projects in software Defined Network for the implementation of centralized network among many vendors.
