Vanet (Vehicular Ad-hoc Network) is a types of MANET where packets are transformed among various mobile node denoted as vehicle on a constrained Network. Vehicular Ad-hoc Network is an emerging technology of wireless networks with more advanced features. In Vanets vehicle referred as node and perform some intellectual activities in network called Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). It is used to ensure various services such as security of driver assistance and comfort driving for road users. It’s composed of various types of vehicle network they are described as follows:

  • Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) and Road side Units (RSUs)

  • Vehicle to X (V2X) [Mixture of both V2Vand V2I]

  • Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V)

ITS also use Information technology and communication for various field such as air transport, Indian railway also include navigation system.

Omnet++ is an event simulator for various communication networks, parallel system, distributed system and multiprocessors. VANET project is Omnet++ composed of various modules to communicate among nodes by Transformation of message passing which is written in C++ language. Major classifications of VANET project in Omnet++ Application are described as follows:

  • Traffic control and management.

  • Infotainment and comfort.

  • Safety oriented (Active Road safety applications).

Inter vehicular communications developed an open source simulation framework called veins which is composed of network simulator and road traffic simulator. The simulators are described as follows:

Omnet++ Network Simulator:

Omnet++ provides a generic architecture for wireless network, hardware architecture, and Queuing network. Network simulations are performed with physical layer Mixim which ensure a model for radio interference for both static and moving data in network.

SUMO for Radio Traffic Simulation:

Simulation of urban mobility (SUMO) is also an open source to maintain traffic in VANET Networks. It composed of various packages such as net import and component model. SUMO is very useful for investigate various topics such as Route discovery and Traffic light algorithm or vehicular network simulation. To generate new state in SUMO, specific XML (Extensible Markup Language) are created. Certain special files are developed which contain a network information as conversion of node and SUMO Link information.

Various vehicles are communicated and they are often referred as Vehicular Ad-hoc Network project in Omnet++ have several advantages and they are described as follows:

  • Minimization of Traffic Jam.

  • It provides reduced fuel consumption and emissions.

  • Avoid accidents.

Vehicular Ad-hoc Network is an important network in wireless Network. Various simulation frameworks are developed to provide efficient VANET communications. So, researchers and students are more focused on do projects in VANET to ensure various Traffic network simulations.
